Welcome to the The Prince’s Dispatch, quarterly newsletter of the
Major General John Bankhead Magruder Chapter of the Virginia Society of
The Military Order of the Stars and Bars.

The Magruder Chapter was chartered as Chapter #258 of the Virginia Society on 9 August 2000. Chapter meetings are held quarterly at a time and place announced in advance. The Chapter also gathers the second Wednesday of each month concurrently with the Matthew Fontaine Maury Camp #1722, Sons of Confederate Veterans at the Salem Library in Fredericksburg.

Iron Cross Dedication, Marking the Grave of

Pvt. Eldridge Tucker Hughes

March 18, 1846 – February 27, 1936

Company F,  4th Virginia Cavalry

Mrs. Raymond W. (Brook) Snead unveils the Iron Cross to honor her father, Eldridge Tucker Hughes.

The dedication took place June 5, 2005.

Assisting Mrs. Snead is Lt. Charles A. Embrey Jr. a member of the mosb and SCV.

Mrs. Snead was a member of the Fredericksburg Chapter of  the United Daughters of the Confederacy

 

The Rose added to the Cross of Honor was at the request of Mrs. Raymond W. (Brook) Snead who was the daughter of Pvt. Eldridge Tucker Hughes.

 

 

 

 
      

 



Mrs. Raymond W. (Brook) Snead

Passed away July 9, 2005. 
She was a real daughter of the Confederacy and was a
member of the Fredericksburg chapter of the
Daughters of the Confederacy for over 40 years.

 

This was one of the last known pictures to have been taken of
Mrs. Raymond W. (Brook) Snead.

Commemorating Jefferson Davis’ 197 th  Birthday

Culpeper Chapter #73 United Daughters of the Confederacy celebrated the 197 th Birthday of Jefferson Davis at the Culpeper United Methodist Church.

Meeting Minutes

June 27, 2005

Members Present: 9

Treasurer's Report: $1,611.38 minus last December's dues payment

·   Jack Flewellen's new email address is : jflewellen@adelphia.net

·   The William L. Day Camp #2091 has been initiated in Spotsylvania. 
       This camp was formed by fifteen (15) members who broke from the Fitzhugh Lee Camp.
       They will be having a picnic sometime in the future for all interested.
       Charlie will forward further details.


·    Administrative functions for the mosb will soon be separated from HQ-SCV in Elm Springs.
          Beauvoir in Gulfport, MS is being considered as a site.


·    A new chapter is now part of the VA Division; the Immortal 600 chapter.

·    Our chapter received second place for our newsletter.
            Congratulations and thanks to John Donnelly.
            John needs information on our confederate ancestors for the newsletters.

 

Upcoming Events:

 

·       July 10th, 2:00PM Manassas Cemetery. 

A dedication for the Past VA Division and Fredericksburg UDC President. 

 Details to follow.

 

·       September 28th, 7:00PM Salem Church Road Library. 

A joint meeting of MOS&B, SCV, UDC, and OSG. 

 Speaker will be Robert "Red" Barbour,

Past VA Div. Commander, SCV and current Commander of the

Fincastle Rifles Camp #1326 in Roanoke, VA.

has supported the UDC and Sons of Confederate Veterans in the area and it is an
honor to be able to proclaim this.
