Melissa Rich The young lady in the picture is Miss Melissa Rich, a Girl Scout from Stafford who organized the "Illumination" at the Confederate Cemetery in Fredericksburg.
The bearded one next to her is my cousin, Charles A. Embrey, standing in for Major General John Bankhead Magruder.   He is also the Lt. Commander of the Major General John Bankhead Magruder Chapter 258,   Military Order of the Stars and Bars.
The Gang This is a picture of just some of the members of the Major General John Bankhead MaGruder Chapter 258, mosb
Matthew Fountaine Maury Camp 1722, SCV
Order of the Southern Gray
The Illumination Melissa made sure there was a Confederate Battle Flag on every grave of a Confederate Soldier.
This was indeed a sight to behold.
The Illumination This is a picture of the lit candles in the white paper bags which lit up the cemetery that night. I don't know how many Melissa had placed but I heard it was about 3000.
During the daylight, all those white bags placed at each head stone looked fantastic, then the sun started down and Melissa and her group started lighting the candles.   After the sun went down and I saw all those little lights, I was amazed at what I was looking at.
Melissa, your parents must be mighty proud of you, I know I am. You have restored my faith in the younger generation. I hope that we will meet again some day at another of your projects.
I don't have any more pictures of the Illumination. I wish I did.
I have to depend on someone else for the pictures.
A very large crowed attended and all enjoyed the sights and music as there was some period music played by some local musicians. I do not know who they were other than Melissa who played the fiddle.
I met a lot of friends there and made some new ones.
